I LOVE New York

ItalicBesides art, New York City is probably one of my favorite things. It is the perfect place to live in my opinion. I love how busy everything always is. It truly is the city that never sleeps. Many are repulsed by how hectic and fast paced this city is, but I never get tired of it. Plus it offers a great amount of parks, museums and other quiet and peaceful places to get away to if needed.

The great thing about New York is there's something to look at. There are plenty of random murals on the Lower East side, beautiful Sky Scrapers in Midtown, and anything else your eyes may wander to while you're trying to make it to work on time.

One of the things my eye always wanders to is the huge LOVE sculpture on 6th Avenue. There's always tourists climbing in and out of it trying to get the perfect picture. But I bet not everyone that passes by that thing thinks anything of it than 4 huge letters that make up one of the most over used words in the English language.

The man behind the masterpiece is Robert Indiana. This artist moved to NYC in 1954 and found himself right in the middle of the Pop Art movement. His works mostly consist of short words like HUG and PEACE. They were also never copyrighted were reproduced on postage stamps which were 8 cents each. The LOVE sculpture is considered to be one of the most visited sculptures in NYC. Today his work is worth over $200,000. It even made it's way to the 2008 Obama campaign where everyone was seen wearing HOPE t-shirts. Indiana was even featured in the Andy Warhol film Mushroom where you can watch him eat a mushroom for about an hour. Entertaining isn't it?

Well if you're ever in New York you should definitely stop by the LOVE sculpture and snap a shot with your significant other or with your friends. Hope you'll love New York as much as I do.

One.

Hello.

It has taken me a while to open up a blog, but I finally got to it. I guess it would be smart to give you some insight on what this blog is going to entail. Here, I hope to share one of my loves with you... art. (As well as anything else that one would consider pleasing to the eye.) I like to consider myself somewhat creative and love anything that pushes my creativity buttons. In this blog I hope to share some of my knowledge of art with you, as well as learn more about it along the way.

I am currently in college studying Visual Merchandising. Although I do love it, I hope to get more into interior design/fine arts. I honestly would be the happiest cutting colorful paper and splattering paint all over the place for the rest of my life.

I like to think that everyone has sense of creativity, but not everyone knows how to recognize it. Hopefully you can find yours, and push a few of your own creativity buttons. You just might find out that its not so scary after all ;)
