The great thing about New York is there's something to look at. There are plenty of random murals on the Lower East side, beautiful Sky Scrapers in Midtown, and anything else your eyes may wander to while you're trying to make it to work on time.
One of the things my eye always wanders to is the huge LOVE sculpture on 6th Avenue. There's always tourists climbing in and out of it trying to get the perfect picture. But I bet not everyone that passes by that thing thinks anything of it than 4 huge letters that make up one of the most over used words in the English language.
The man behind the masterpiece is Robert Indiana. This artist moved to NYC in 1954 and found himself right in the middle of the Pop Art movement. His works mostly consist of short words like HUG and PEACE. They were also never copyrighted were reproduced on postage stamps which were 8 cents each. The LOVE sculpture is considered to be one of the most visited sculptures in NYC. Today his work is worth over $200,000. It even made it's way to the 2008 Obama campaign where everyone was seen wearing HOPE t-shirts. Indiana was even featured in the Andy Warhol film Mushroom where you can watch him eat a mushroom for about an hour. Entertaining isn't it?
Well if you're ever in New York you should definitely stop by the LOVE sculpture and snap a shot with your significant other or with your friends. Hope you'll love New York as much as I do.
